Rainbow Bridge

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together . . .

Phoebe
Phoebe came into the DDR after one of the volunteers heard about a Yorkie that the family had sent to the local vet to be euthanized after the owner suddenly died . She was a 13 yr old, chubby, food driven pup with her famous Yorkie demeanor. It took her a month before she decided we could be her foster family but once she settled in we couldn’t let her go so she became another foster failure! Sadly Phoebe only lived a little over a year with us but she had lots of adventures and spoils in that short time. She is missed but we know that her spirit is happy to be reunited with her first mom. Senior pups are often over looked in favor for puppies or younger pups but they have a lot of love and companionship left to offer.

Rusty
Hi Diane, I just wanted to give you an update on Rusty- i adopted him and his brother Stretch January 2017. It's not a good one. I unexpectedly lost my baby this past Saturday. I took him to the ER last week after he wasn't feeling good and we found a mass on his liver and prostate. The last 6 years with him were the best, he really was a special dog! His eyes were contagious and his love was one of a kind. Anywhere we went he was loved on. Thank you for giving me my best friend. I will cherish our memories forever ♥️

Gemma
We remember the first time we met Gemma, we came over to DDR sat down and she came in the room and went directly to Monte and sat in his lap, looked to the door and basically said, “I pick this person, and am ready to go home!” She was always a “daddy’s girl “ but loved us all as well!!! Thank you for giving us the most precious gift, the unconditional love of Gemma!!! All our love, Mary, Monte, Jared & Shasta-Gemma’s 4 legged sister

Hannah
Hannah and Miley came home to live with us in August Here’s a picture of Hannah(darker one) and Miley. They came home to live with us in August/ 2011. They were best friends. Hannah was the leader and Miley the follower and more shy. They slept with me every night until Hannah got sick then wanted to sleep on the floor. Hannah crosses the Rainbow Bridge 7/2/2020. The very next day there was a red cardinal outside my window. I’m sure Hannah was telling me thank you for such a good life and she was happy at our Lords house. 2011. They were best friends. Chuck Norris
I just wanted to give you an update on Chuck Norris (not sure if you remember every dog that comes your way.) It's not a happy update, Chuck (or George as my kids renamed him) passed away on Saturday. He didn't suffer much, he went into cardiac arrest (unexpectedly) and the emergency vets did all they could, but it was just his time. I just wanted to give you a HUGE amount of thank yous. What you do is amazing and just want to encourage to keep it up! George (Chuck) was only in our house for 2 years, but we are so thankful for every moment we spent with him. He was the best! Probably the smartest dog I've ever met. He could communicate with us by pointing with his nose. I've never had a dog that did that (or maybe I did and I wasn't paying attention.) He loved life, his bed, his many toys, our other dog Chip (they became best buddies), playing games that he would invent, watching the Great British Bake Off, herding my kids, his backyard, and he love routine--which made my wife say that he was a dog after her own heart. It breaks our hearts that the first 10 years of his life he was in a puppy mill, we can't imagine what that must've been like for such a smart boy like he was. I wish I could tell the owner of that place that they missed out on an incredible dog. Thank you, thank you, thank you and Dakota Dachshund for rescuing him! We will never forget him. We loved our Georgie boy! Our oldest boy said that even though it was only for two years, it was worth every moment. With Love, The Nichols Family (Chris, Sarah, Jonah, Neeley, and Violet) p.s. I attached a picture of him with his best buddy, Chip. Our bed was George's favorite spot in the house. :)
