Rainbow Bridge

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together . . .

Blossom
have lost my sweet baby girl, Blossom. (Formerly Patsy) When I got her over 6 years ago, she hid in the corner for months. With time, love and patience she blossomed into the best dog ever for me. We had such a bond! I was her human and she was my baby girl. In February she started having breathing problems. Long story short, the doctors couldn't figure out what was causing it. It turned out to be that she was allergic to my new leather couch. I got rid of the couch and she improved. Then she got sick again. This time it was a bowel obstruction. She had surgery on Labor Day and passed away on Saturday September 6th. My heart is broken and physically hurts. It was not on my radar that she might not make it. Love your doxies well...you just don't know how long you will have them. Thank you DDR for bringing her into my life! It just wasn't long enough.

Reggie
Reggie, you came to me about 4 years ago. I was very hesitant due years to your age, about 11, as I had just lost Angel, my precious pup. And I did not want to go through that again. But I couldn't help adoring short chubby Reggie with his big brown eyes. So, I adopted you. We became very close, going for walks every day, visiting a dog park and you're favorite going to the Falls. How did I know how much I would love you. I still want to hold you in my arms. When I thought of the abuse and neglect you went thru for the first 11 yrs. of your life it tore at my heart how you had suffered. He was shy at first, afraid that I would hurt him too. When he knew I wouldn't hurt him we became instant cuddle buddies. When I saw for myself. how afraid you were of violence I knew how badly you had been mistreated. As you sat by me on the floor while I was putting the plastic face back on a large clock, I had to hit the plastic face with the side of my hand to fit it on the clock. And then I noticed all of a sudden you were gone. And then I realized how I had scared you. When I went to look for you, I noticed your tail under my bed. I got down on my knees to talk to you and you turned your head and would not look at me. I patted his foot and up under his body. Then I reached for his front paw but he pulled that under him too. My heart broke for you. One memory I will cherish forever is when you slept right next to me a couple of nights before you passed. You had always slept at my feet. But that night, you moved right up next to me, and I put my arm around you, and you snuggled even closer. Did you know Reggie? Did you know you were soon to pass? Reggie you'll be with me forever in my heart. XOXO Mom

Phoebe
Phoebe came into the DDR after one of the volunteers heard about a Yorkie that the family had sent to the local vet to be euthanized after the owner suddenly died . She was a 13 yr old, chubby, food driven pup with her famous Yorkie demeanor. It took her a month before she decided we could be her foster family but once she settled in we couldn’t let her go so she became another foster failure! Sadly Phoebe only lived a little over a year with us but she had lots of adventures and spoils in that short time. She is missed but we know that her spirit is happy to be reunited with her first mom. Senior pups are often over looked in favor for puppies or younger pups but they have a lot of love and companionship left to offer.

Rusty
Hi Diane, I just wanted to give you an update on Rusty- i adopted him and his brother Stretch January 2017. It's not a good one. I unexpectedly lost my baby this past Saturday. I took him to the ER last week after he wasn't feeling good and we found a mass on his liver and prostate. The last 6 years with him were the best, he really was a special dog! His eyes were contagious and his love was one of a kind. Anywhere we went he was loved on. Thank you for giving me my best friend. I will cherish our memories forever ♥️

Gemma
We remember the first time we met Gemma, we came over to DDR sat down and she came in the room and went directly to Monte and sat in his lap, looked to the door and basically said, “I pick this person, and am ready to go home!” She was always a “daddy’s girl “ but loved us all as well!!! Thank you for giving us the most precious gift, the unconditional love of Gemma!!! All our love, Mary, Monte, Jared & Shasta-Gemma’s 4 legged sister
