Animal Success Stories

"My little dog---a heartbeat at my feet."  Edith Wharton

Our lives will forever be enriched because of the dachsies that touched our hearts in rescue, but we know the real healing does not begin until they leave our care.  We encourage, we celebrate, we do everything we can to give them the skills they need to put their best paw forward as they wait for their forever families to find them . . . and then the time comes to say goodbye.

Often we shed tears.  We remember when they came in, how far they’ve come, the hiccups along the way – we laugh, we cry – and then we always say a little prayer as we send them on their way.  We hope they find the confidence to keep that best paw forward, because we know, when they do, they will truly flourish.  It is then, they will heal; it is then, they will find peace.

If you have adopted one of our adorable dachsies, and would like to contribute a Success Story, please e-mail dakotadachshund@hotmail.com, and we will add it to the website.  Be sure to send us a current picture.  We do love pictures!!!

Radar

thanks for the e-mail. Yesterday was such a whirlwind that we did have questions but figured someone would contact us, or we would figure it out. As i type, Radar is sitting beneath my feet. He is pretty timid but is doing ok. He hasn't eaten much yet to speak of, but we will get some dog chow and mix it with our beneful which our dog eats. He has been outside numerous times and is doing okay with his harnass and leash. We had quite a rainstorm last night, so both of the dogs had accidents on the kitchen floor. Oh well!! He met our two cats and was very curious, but of course they just walked on by and wanted nothing to do with him. He has wandered throughout most of the house and seems content. He barks only when my husband and son make quick movements, but it just makes us laugh because he is so quiet otherwise. We will be looking into some training classes for him and my son as I would like Dylan to be his primary caregiver as time goes on. We will wait and see about that. I am hopefully attaching a picture of him and our dog, Julia. Thanks for everything! We love Radar and will take very good care of him. Good luck with your mission, you guys do a great job. Dave, Karrie and Dylan Borchert
