Rainbow Bridge

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together . . .

Sadie
Sadie came to DDR as an owner surrender. She and Chloe were sisters that loved to be together. Sadie was always the quiet one that loved to sit on the couch next to you as her sister played ball. Sadie was such a snuggler, she never asked for much, just a pet or a hug and a place next to you wherever you sat. Sadie was such a beautiful girl! She will be missed terribly by her foster mom who adopted Sadie shortly before she passed away. Thanks Tonya for giving a senior girl a home of her own in her golden years! Sadie knew she had your heart the first time you threw a birthday party for her.

Samantha
Samantha aka Sammer Jo came to DDR as her mom had no more patience for her. She arrived in DDR, got all spiffed up at Dr Paul's office, she felt great after getting a dental and getting rid of some nasty teeth. Her next stop was a life of luxury and love at Tonya's (her new foster mom). Samantha didn't attend the June Meet and Greet as she was new to rescue, just recovering from her teeth extractions and foster mom had to work that day. Not many got to meet this adorable senior girl and God had other plans for her......Samantha died in Tonya's arms on Monday due to a very sudden onset of congestive heart failure. Samantha got to know she was loved and adored before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge....she was sent to us for a lesson in life. Thanks Tonya for showing her how much you loved her the short time you had to share with her.

Sassy Sue
Sassy Sue was a very sad senior girl as her owner had passed away, she ended up outside alone and in need of medical attention. A very kind lady took her in, got her the much needed medical attention and then helped her find her way to DDR. Sassy Sue was given a wonderful loving foster home and more medical attention while she was in DDR. Unfortunately was more ill than anyone knew, she always searched for her owner and we know she is now happy as she joined her owner at the Rainbow Bridge.

Shania
Shania you changed our lives forever! You were the cutest little girl, even with all your teeth gone you loved your treats and loved meal time. I loved loved when you followed with your buddy Tina and your brothers and sisters to the gate all perky waiting for your food and barking at me to hurry up :) Any time I went upstairs to grab something you sat at the bottom looking up waiting for me and barking at me to come back fast. You were so spunky even when your hind legs didn't want to cooperate with you, but that never stopped you one bit. You would enjoy smelling the grass looking up at the butterflies letting Scooter play with you and chase you around the house, you were a wonderful girl so full of life and spunk. I loved seeing your tail wag when I came and sat with you or laid next to you. I loved how your tongue hung out and you would lick my hand so I would pet you letting me know :) I loved watching you and Tina cuddle together and her laying her head on you or vice versa. Your dolphin toy boy did you enjoy that you could tear it up and make it squeak so loud and boy when you wanted it you moved fast to get it! You made us smile ALOT in the short 5 months and six days we got to enjoy you because of you our lives were so much fuller. I will miss rubbing your belly and watching you roll around on the floor being silly. YOU had so much love to give to everyone. There wasn't anyone you didn't like. So Monday night the vet told us you were in pain I wanted to be selfish and take you back home but I didn't want you to suffer so I hugged you and kissed you and kept telling you how much we all loved you and that you were such an amazing little girl. I kept telling you I hope you felt the love and knew how much you were loved. I sobbed hard watching the vet do what needed to be done, but I wasn't going to leave you alone in that room I needed to be with you I didn't want you to pass away alone. I looked into your eyes one last time. Did you know that did you see me, I hope you did, the vet said you looked like you were far away but I pray you saw me right in front of you our noses touching. Even as I watched you take your last breath it just about killed me, but I know your in heaven running and have all your teeth and not in pain. Tina & Taylor miss you sooo much they said goodbye to you yesterday I don't know if you know that but they did. We will NEVER forget you Shania Witt!! We will always miss you!! Earl,Veronica, Tina & Taylor Witt

Star
STAR my Pirate January 2014 brought Starletta, a long hair dachshund into my life. I met her at the meet and great, I wanted another dachshund to fill the hole in my heart left by Glory. See, I could not deal with not having my baby there wagging her tail to great me from the top of the stairs as I came home from work. Enter Star. The moment she was in my arms she gave me a true, long, definite hug around my neck. My heart melted and I believe she knew that’s what I needed. To my blessing, Star had chosen me. For the next three and a half years she was my best buddy. She started being more outgoing and playing. She would be in the yard exploring and suddenly whip around and trot for me, like playing a game of tag. She started to play with a ball. I don’t think she ever had any toys, you see she was a puppy mill mama until thrust into the arms of Dakota Dachshund Rescue. She was not needed anymore and no longer wanted. She had used up her usefulness. She had a scar on her head and her right eye was damaged. We never knew what that was about but it never affected her beauty for me or the sweetness she had in her heart. She would gallop from the other room if I sat in my chair and always, always wanted up and to snuggle with me. She learned quickly what ride meant and was the first one at the door and at the car. She loved riding in the car. She had her favorite blanket, not to cover up with but to drag around the house and play with. We figured that was the only enjoyment she had while she was making puppies. Her short time with me was wonderful for both of us. I know she loved my wife and I, and I can’t even begin to explain how I loved that little girl. She went outside to play August 8th with her other two buddies. All tails wagging and running out the door. After lunch two came back and Star had laid down under the apple tree and crossed the Rainbow Bridge. To have another like Star would be a blessing more than anyone could deserve, but she is out there and needs me like I need her.
